Ramsland Farm
In March 2024 Jacks and Alice and their two young girls (Violet and Nancy, 6 and 4) took over the tenancy at Ramsland Farm, on the Flete Estate in South Devon. The farm comprises 190 acres, with a second block of 200 acres being added in March 2026.
The overall strategy focuses on an organic regenerative and 100% pasture fed livestock system, farming with soil health and nature recovery at the heart of their decision making. By working in partnership with natural systems and their suckler herd of north devon cows and flock of exlana sheep, they look to produce nutrient dense food for their local community and beautiful, rich habitat creation for biodiversity.
They practice adaptive multi paddock grazing across the farm, with bale / deferred grazing through the winter periods. Hoping to showcase how such management can provide a boost for nature, soil health, animal welfare and farm economics. The grassland is given extended rest periods in grazing rotations to improve soil health, increase biodiversity, build soil organic matter and ultimately produce more forage growth.
With support from The Bat Conservation Trust and Farming in Protected Landscapes they have just completed a project to restore 70 acres of Semi-Improved Grassland to a mixture of Rush Pasture Priority Habitat and Lowland Meadow Priority Habitat species rich grassland. They have restored and extended two priority habitat traditional orchards and plans are underway for a large scale agroforestry project over the next two years.
