At CB Farms LLP we are focused on soil regeneration, and all of the benefits it brings our livestock and farming system. High welfare has always been high on our priority list and since moving to a regenerative system we have been amazed how the overall health of our herds has improved. We have 2 pedigree herds, Herefords and Belted Galloways that run together as a large mob of about 170 cattle for the majority of the year, over diverse herbal lays, pasture and cover crops. During this time period we focus on the impact they are having on the land they graze, keeping them moving and making sure fields get adequate rest, to allow our different grasses, herbs and legumes to flower. We aim to keep our cattle out as long as possible, if not out all winter. This has been achieved with our Belted Galloways and hopefully the Herefords will be soon to follow. We also run a flock of pedigree Hampshire Down sheep and a flock of cross bred ewes with a terminal Hampshire Down sire. Native breeds are integral to what we are trying to achieve on our farm as they are hardy, mature beautifully on pasture alone and taste fantastic.
Everything produced on the farm gets sent through Tunstall Meat Company butchers shop, a sister company located 10 minutes away from our farms. We use an abattoir 40 min away ensuring extremely low food miles. Maintaining control over the full food chain is extremely important to us and in opening our butchers shop we could see our livestock's journey through to the end product which is the best way to ensure complete transparency for our customers.
