Colstrope Farm

Colstrope Farm

Colstrope Farm sits in the Hambleden Valley within the Chilterns AONB. The valley has for centuries been predominantly permanent grassland and is today protected by a NT covenant. The Farm’s land extends from the rich meadows alongside a chalk winter borne stream in the valley base up to the wildflower chalk slopes of the hills. The terrain is varied and biodiverse with over 200 identified plants within the grazed areas, creating a precious mix of wildlife habitats.

The owners of Colstrope Farm have devoted the farm to preserve and enhance bio-diversity and habitat, wildlife and soil health aided by regenerative farming methods utilising cattle. The cattle are Dexters, bred and reared on the farm. The calves stay with their mothers and family in a multi-generational herd for their whole lives. The farm prioritises welfare for our cows who are cared for without the use of anti-biotics, wormers or any artificial products, being 100% pasture fed on our species rich grasslands.

The farm aim is to be better than carbon neutral through: improving soil health by increasing soil carbon through rotational grazing od cattle; by planting of trees & hedgerows; harnessing renewable energy and minimising fossil fuel use. The farm is also now planning its own butchery and food preparation.
