Gwent Wildlife Trust
Gwent Wildlife Trust was set up in 1963 as part of a UK wide network of county wildlife trusts.
Since 2009 it has owned and bred a flock of pedigree Hebridean sheep with pedigree Hill Radnors joining in 2012.
In 2016 these were joined by a herd of organic Hereford store cattle to carry out conservation grazing on Pentwyn Farm nature reserve, Penallt, nr Monmouth.
Pentwyn Farm Meadows are a Site of Special Scientific Interest for its collection of wild flower species typical of traditional lowland hay meadows. This has been run as an organic holding since 2005. The adjacent former dairy farm was purchased in 2008 and has been undergoing a grassland restoration project since then. It is also the Coronation Meadows receptor site for Monmouthshire.
