Hall Farm (formerly Hill & Coombe Dairy)
We aim to farm in a way that strives to enhance and protect our natural environment. By combining diverse species rich meadows, mob grazing and wood-pasture we aim to create a vibrant environment that will build soil structure, sequester carbon and encourage insects, birds and other wildlife onto the farm.
We are tenant farmers on the Woodland Trust Estate here at Hall Farm, a unique place rich in natural and historic character.
We produce a selection of natural and flavoured yogurts and sometimes seasonal soft cheese.
During the summer months (July & August) we also produce Raw & A2 Milk from our small herd of 15 Jersey X cows.
During the winter months of January - March our cows are pregnant and we do not milk them, giving them a well deserved rest.
We keep our cows and calves together, a practice that enables the calves and their mothers to create and maintain a bond that is essential for optimum animal health and wellbeing. We milk once a day, leaving enough milk for the calves to thrive.
We also produce beef from the male calves which derive from our milking herd, along side a growing suckler-herd of beef shorthorn cows.
Our cows are 100% grass fed, grazing the lush meadows and browsing the diverse hedgerows and woodland edge for as many months as possible, remaining outdoors year round. During the colder months their diet is supplemented with hay, either grazed standing or rolled out in the field where it was made in round bales by hand (keeping machinery parked up and off the fields in winter).
