Bogridge farm is a 96 acre grassland farm near Harrogate, North Yorkshire which is owned and run by Rob and Emma Burnett.
After renting our land out for 20 years we decided to take it back and follow our commitment to nature, wildlife and ethical farming. We left the land fallow for 9 months then in Autumn 2023 we introduced 15 English Longhorn cows and calves bought from PFL members Breeding Vision. Longhorns are an ideal breed for our farming system. They are hardy enough to live outside all year. They are also quiet to handle, easy calving and good mothers. With no fertilizers or chemicals used on the land and no wormers or vaccines used, our cattle are farmed as near to nature as possible with little impact on nature or the environment. Our farming policy is to keep things as simple as possible by leaving plenty standing grass for the cows to eat during winter, rather than making hay or silage.
The cattle have proved popular with our holiday cottage guests and we enjoy showing people around the farm to look at the cows, our Tamworth pigs and our wildlife pond.
