Susan's Farm is an organic farm certified by the Soil Association. Our Lamb and Beef is also Pasture for Life Accredited (PFLA).
Our founder, Susan Aglionby, was quoted on BBC's Countryfile in July 2016 as saying; "Healthy soil produces healthy plants that produce healthy food and so healthy children."
This is the ethic that drives our passion to farm and share that knowledge and experience with others.
The farm comprises three main blocks of land, The Croft at Houghton and land at Wallacefield, Armathwaite. The total area of land grazed and farmed extends to approximately 70 ha or 150 acres.
Susan's Farm is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) registered with the Charity Commission as a Charity in England and Wales Number 1183223. It is certified by Social Farms & Gardens and meets their Codes of Practice.
Our Charitable Purposes are:
(1) To advance education among disadvantaged and/or vulnerable adults and young people with learning difficulties, challenging behaviours, or mental/physical health problems ("the beneficiaries") through the establishment and operation of a farm providing training and other educational facilities in agriculture, horticulture and other related skills.
(2) To develop the capacity and skills of the beneficiaries in such a way that they are better able to identify, and help meet, their needs and to participate more fully in society.
(3) The advancement of education through the provision of educational programmes on agriculture, horticulture and other farming related skills to children, young people and adult learners.
