Jonathan is a National Trust tenant on a 75ha organic farm in the Cotswolds, with his wife, MeI and their young family. They aim to deliver high quality products and a thriving environment, with a focus on traditional breed cattle (Herefords), sheep (Cotswolds), farmland birds and species-rich grassland. They sell ‘Pasture for Life’ beef and lamb/hogget/mutton directly to local consumers.
Jonathan is also a lecturer in farm business management, marketing, rural tourism and agricultural policy at the Royal Agricultural University in Cirencester. He encourages young farmers to build environmental, social and true-cost sustainability into their enterprises. He has 20 years of consultancy experience.
In 2015 Jonathan was awarded a Nuffield Farming Scholarship, which led him to Romania, Italy, America and Canada, to study regenerative agriculture and sustainable farm businesses. This opportunity has reinforced his belief in pasture- based systems and local food economies. He recognises that there is more to do on his own farm, but also much more to do at a strategic organisational level too.
Jonathan has been involved with the PFLA as an active member for three years, helping informally to promote the ‘Pasture for Life’ ethos and brand.
He feels Pasture farmers have a great product and story to tell and believes passionately in birth-to-plate accreditation. He wants to help build supply and demand to benefit all members, farms and customers.Contact Jonty
