Derbyshire Wildlife Trust

Derbyshire Wildlife Trust is one of 47 local Trusts around the UK working to promote and protect local wildlife. We manage 42 nature reserves, including moorland, wetlands, woodlands and wildflower meadows.

Many of our nature reserves are grazed by our own cattle and sheep, helping to maintain and restore living landscapes,  rich in wildlife valued by everyone. We also want to demonstrate that wildlife and farming can co-exist in a sustainable way, we do this through the rearing and production of our own beef and lamb.

We select hardy native breeds, well suited to life outdoors year-round and a diet of 100% grass. In the summer the animals graze our extensive pastures, untouched by any fertililsers or herbicides, and in the winter they enjoy a diet of herb rich hay, cut from our meadows in the summer.

This leads to beef and lamb that is allowed to grow slowly, developing a wonderful taste and texture. Being a small enterprise the meat is available as and when and customers interested in buying from us are asked to join our mailing list to ensure they hear about availability first.

Our lamb is sold in 1/2 lamb boxes, containing leg and shoulder joints, chops, steaks and the slower cooking joints neck and breast. They are charged by weight and usually weigh between 7-10kg.

Out beef is sold in 10 or 20kg boxes, each of which contains the whole range of joints, mince, stewing meat and steaks.

All of our meat is vac-packed for freshness and hygiene. It is available fresh from our headquarters on the day it is ready or can be frozen if that is not convenient. Each pack comes in a meat box with recipe ideas and an invitation to visit us at Woodside Farm to see true conservation in action.
